The Phantom was more than glad that all the students had returned to the school after a very long, boring holiday of empty halls and silent classrooms. It was no fun when there were no students around. Now, though, the Phantom could resume the games that had taken play over the previous year. The students had seemed to enjoy it.

Once again, the Phantom took two students from their beds and placed them in a room, this time on the second floor of the school, and as usual, the room wasn't at all what one would expect to see around the school. There was a very specific color scheme creating the entire room, even the objects within it. The big question, however, was how much was an illusion, and how much was real? What was slants and angles and what was just a creation of a cleverly manipulated mind?

The students in question... well, the Phantom felt they were just the right students for this particular occasion. They would enjoy the wonders of the unknown, and the peculiar, and the unexpected. Yes, they were just the right students for this.

Fast asleep, on the floor of one odd looking room, was Archie. The young third year didn't know this yet, as he was fast asleep. But it didn't take him long to shift uncomfortably and hit his head against the wall directly next to him. With a grumble of annoyance and a rub of the head he sat up and yawned. The floor beneath him was definitely a floor and not his bed. Which was weird because Arch was sure he had fallen asleep in a bed, not on a floor. The floor was not the same as a good mattress, so that was part of why he had woken up. Sleepily the young third year blinked, catching flashes of blue in front of him. Why was everything blue?

Opening his eyes fully, the shock of the trippy color scheme gave him a fast headache. Closing his eyes he took a deep breath and then opened them again. What he saw hurt his head, but he was able to control a headache from attacking him so he could look around. He appeared to be sitting next to a carpet suspended slightly off the ground at the edge, each edge appearing to be held up by some invisible force. On his other side was a wall, so at least he knew what was real. Grabbing the wall, Archie raised himself off the ground, not letting go so that he could stay balanced. There were several objects in the room, but they were colored the same as the walls and carpet. In one corner there was a box and in the one opposite it a chair. It was really hard to tell what the other things were with the coloring and all, so Archie just avoided looking at anything but the ground.

Unsure what to do next, Archie looked around for a door. There was one on the opposite end of the room from him. He would have to get there to leave this weird place. But how was he supposed to cross the room? The carpet appeared to cave into some dip in the floor and was lifted at the other side. He could walk along the wall, but something told him that maybe that would be taking the easy way out. Sure, he liked to get things over with and move on before things got too awkward, but he hadn't seen another person, he appeared to, so far, be alone. Maybe a little look around wouldn't hurt.

Letting go of his wall, Arch moved toward the carpet, taking investigative steps forward with his hands outstretched to catch himself if he fell. Stepping toward the edge of the carpet he found it was, indeed, levitating a little off the floor. Stepping over it he took a cautious step toward the dip in the center of the carpet. Upon setting his foot down, the third year stumbled into the table passed it for it was simply a trick of the pattern and there was no real bend on the floor. However, the table was not attached to the floor and the young boy toppled over with a loud noise and an omph. Maybe looking around had not been such a good idea.

A sudden loud noise jolted Barty awake prematurely, and before he was able to wake up fully, instinct caused him to reach swiftly to the side of his bed where his wand rested on his bedside table - only, there was no bedside table, there was not even a bed. His fingers contacted a floor as hard as the one that he was lying on. Why exactly why he was lying on a floor? Why was he not in the Slytherin dorm in which he knew he had fallen asleep? His eyes opened, but he closed them immediately, because the colors had stung his eyes slightly and made his tired mind ache a little. The checkered pattern burned into his eyelids when he had closed them, and seconds later, prepared now, he opened them again. What was this place? The color scheme was like no room he'd ever seen; it was rather appalling, really. Barty wished immediately to leave just so he wouldn't have to look at it any longer - and so that he could return to the normalcy of his dormitory.

In the seconds of confusion following his wakeup, Barty had almost forgotten why exactly he had woken up so suddenly anyway. The noise... where had it come from. He made to sit up by pushing on the floor next to him to hoist himself into an upright position, but the floor beside him was not a flat surface as it seemed, and his hand slipped into a little divot, so he hit floor again. Swearing, he more carefully pushed himself into a sitting, then standing position. The room was much larger than it had initially seemed from his sleeping position, and he was able to see various items in the room, all following the same horrid color scheme - a box, a chair, a table, a carpet, a boy - a boy? He had half a mind to tell him off for what, he didn't know, because the young boy who had apparently tripped on something could not possibly be the culprit behind this mystery room. He was far too young.

"You - what are you doing?" Barty made his presence known in a commanding but not reprimanding voice. "What do you know of this?" He thought to shorten the distance between him and his unfamiliar companion, but walking proved harder than perceived. Part of it was because he was tired and the room was making him dizzy, and part of it because the room was not as simple as it seemed. Where there appeared to be level footing, there were actual small bumps and dips, making him stumble a little and tread very slowly. The boy, so it seemed, had discovered this as well, but had not been so lucky and had toppled into the table. Barty stopped when he was a little closer, but had not crossed the strange floating carpet, because he did not want to fall as well. He looked around again, the result still as dizzying. But he ignored it, because he had to examine his surroundings to find a way out.
