Thump, Thump, Thump.
Evanthe could hear her heart pounding as she soared through the air. Her large black wings were extended, long primary feathers curling just slightly. Below her was the blur of trees belonging to the hidden forest, a place she feels at home in. Well, one of the places she feels at home in. Another was the sky, and she was more than happy to be out on this cloudy day. The cold air rushed past her as she flew, and Evanthe closed her multi-colored eyes (A trait she carries with her when in her animagus form) to enjoy the feeling.

Evanthe felt so at home, as if she were a kite soaring in the air. Her black feathers were pressed to her body as she flew, it was like she belonged in the air. However, Evanthe's joy was short lived when she opened her eyes. The Raven animagus was heading straight for a cluster of branches from a tall tree. Suddenly, she moved her body upwards and flapped, moving backwards before losing her control. Evanthe tumbled like a rag doll through the air, plummeting to the ground. She transformed back into her human form just before breaking through the branches. Evanthe hit the ground hard, her eyes squeezed shut. "Fucking hell", she mumbled in a shaky tone. In fact, her entire body was shaking. He black sweater was snagged and torn in multiple places from the branches, but nothing was serious. Still, she was quite shaken up.

Evanthe sat up, staring at the grass for a long time, she attempted to take long, even breaths to calm herself. Nothing really worked. Still, she stood up and brushed off clothes. Evanthe headed for the outskirts of the Forbidden Forest, staring down at the ground as she walked. Her black converse treaded through the tall grass, stepping over fallen logs and other obstacles. Evanthe heard not a single creature, apparently her fall was enough to scare the likes of them off. A shame, she loved watching the beautiful animals as they went on with their lives. Who knows, they might have helped Evanthe get her mind off of the terrifying fall.

The blonde female sat down at the very edge of the forest, resting her back against a large tree. She began to wonder what Pesti and Kirin might be doing, anything to keep her distracted. She fiddled with a blade of grass, picking at it and cutting it with her nail. She figured she would stay awhile, avoid the inside while she could be outside.

Kirin was unable to take it anymore, the air inside of Hogwarts was full of dust and he kept inhaling, which was doing him no justice. As he left his room, he brought his right hand up to his mouth, balled into a loose fist, and coughed into it. The dust tickled his throat and settled inside his already ill lungs, he did not need it making his breathing any worse than what it was. Again, he coughed, trying to shoo away with his left hand, the dust that seemed to want to collect around him. It was like the air was out to kill him and he could not get away from it no matter what he tried to do for it. At least he was only in the Slytherin dungeon, so he only had to go up one flight of stairs to get to the first floor of Hogwarts, then it would be freedom. He sighed at that thought, which was a huge mistake, for more dust clogged up his lungs and irritated them, causing him to violently cough again.

Finally reaching the top of the steps, Kirin wandered down the many halls of the first floor till he finally reached the entrance of the school. However, he finally had to pause and rest a hand against the wall, where he could rest fully and cough as much as he needed. His breaths came in short, small gasps, as he tried to calm down and let his lungs relax again and breathe more easily. Once he felt that he was, the male pressed off the wall and pushed open the entrance doors of Hogwarts, stepping out into the real world. Sucking in a deep, fresh breath of air, the sixteen-year-old closed his eyes for a moment before he opened them again and continued on. Here, the air was fresh and he could breathe naturally; birds chirped and the sun shone brightly for such a cloudy day. Nothing could get any better than what he saw now as he walked through the grounds of the school and out toward the border near the Forbidden Forest.

His blue-grey eyes scanned the terrain for someone in particular, someone he had not seen at all for most of the day: Evanthe. It made him slightly curious to know where his twin sister's best friend was, as she was almost always around Pestilence and him. The closer he got to the Forbidden Forest, however, the more he felt that she was there, waiting for him for some reason. As he came over the ridge, sure enough, the pale sixteen-year-old was sitting in the shade of some of the trees near the forest. He was not surprised that she was hiding out in the shade, she always tried to avoid the sunlight as much as possible. Kirin paused just in front of her, stuffing his hands into his pockets and staring down at the smaller female. A tickle in the back of his throat caused him to cough into his arm, however, disturbing the look he was giving her.

"Evanthe," he greeted her in a raspy voice, sucking in air slowly as to prevent himself from coughing anymore. "What are you doing out here near the Forbidden Forest, where the sunlight is shining so brightly today?" Kirin pulled his hands out his pockets and sat down, quietly staring at her as he waited for a response from her. "How come you're not in the building, looking for some mischief like you normally do or having slumber parties with Pestilence?" Honestly, he did not know what else she did at the school other than cause trouble and somehow drag him into it as well. It was like he could not escape from her, everything that she was a part of, he somehow happened to be a part of as well. He was not one to like it like that, but it did not seem to bother Evanthe at all, so he was not ever going to say anything about it.

Evanthe looked up from the blade of grass, allowing it to fall from her hands. His coughing had startled her out of her daze, and the fact that she was still shaken up didn't help at all. "Hello Kirin", she managed to mumble, looking up at him as he sat down next to her. "I went for a flight", Evanthe tugged on her torn sleeves, looking down at the grass once more. She didn't even bother trying to tell him she'd be fine and it wasn't all that hot. He'd end up making her go inside. And while in the condition she was in, it would be best if Evanthe kept her speaking to when she absolutely has to.

The blonde haired female smiled at his next question, lacking her usual chuckle. Reaching up, she brushed her bangs back into place and shook her head. "we don't throw slumber parties", Evanthe murmured, looking at him in a sideway glance. What could he be doing out here? Was the air getting to stuffy outside? Thoughts ran through her head, questions she could ask but she didn't bother to speak. Keep the new thoughts and push out the old memories, forget about it... just forget about it.

He gave a small nod in reply to Evanthe's answer, "I see, that explains why your shirt is torn in the sleeves and other various spots. However, that only partially explains why you are shaking like a wet dog that was just given a bath on a cold day." Kirin frowned eyed her more closely than what he normally would, she did seem pretty shaken up about her flight. What made her like that, though, had she fallen from the sky or something and she was scared because of that? Please, that did not seem right to him, she was never scared of falling, she was the fearless gal he knew her as. The teen gave out a sigh and scooted closer to her, "you're not cold are you, that seems a bit odd since it's so warm out." Again, he looked her over like he was trying analyze her, but really, he was just trying to figure out what was wrong.

"I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with what girls do nowadays," Kirin snapped at her in a sarcastic tone. "Like I know what you and Pestilence do in your dorm everyday, for all I know, you could be looking at porn or something." Really, he did not care what they did on their free time, he was just curious sometimes when it came to Evanthe. Usually, he would just leave her alone, but Pestilence had not been around him earlier when he felt an attack coming on and he got scared. "Look, I just don't want anything happening to you, because you're the person I rely on when my sister is not around. I got scared earlier, I thought an attack was coming on, and Pestilence wasn't around and I didn't know what to do, so I panicked." His blue-grey eyes searched hers, trying to find some sort of comfort in them, but as far as it looked, there was none.

Evanthe furrowed her brow, trying her bst not to speak to quickly. However, as soon as he brought up her shaking she looked him dead in the eye. "I'm not cold! I just, I just, You know-", Evanthe paused, "Just forget it." She didn't want to tell him. Afraid of falling? No, she wasn't afraid of falling, not to him. She couldn't show her fears, it would just get in the way of being fearless. You can be fearless if you have fears, it's common sense!

Porn. He just had to bring up something like f*cking porn. If Evanthe was functioning straight she'd slap him. But she was not functioning straight, actually, she was stressing out pretty bad right now. She looked up at Kirin as he spoke, her single visible eye showing nothing. However, as he began to break down about his possible attack, Evanthe's gaze slowly softened. She did worry an awful lot about him and was willing to push her own troubles to the side. Looking down at the grass, she shook her head. "I'm sorry Kirin..."

"You became scared when you fell, didn't you?" Kirin inquired, leaning against the trunk of the tree that was behind him. "Don't tell me you weren't either, I can tell something is up with you, not as well as I can with Pestilence, but still . . ." His blue-grey eyes watched her as she shivered with fright; though, he made no move to comfort her in the least bit. He probably should comfort her, but he was not good with that kind of stuff, so he just let it work its own self out. "No one can be absolutely fearless, it's just not possible; you can put the act on, but deep down, you're always scared of something. Like me, I'm scared to hell with death, I don"t want to die, especially by suffocation; that's what scares me the most." Why was he telling her this, it was a weakness to show that you were scared of something, at least, that was what his father taught him.

"Don't be sorry," Kirin sighed out, resting his head against the tree trunk next and closing his eyes. "I'm sure I would have found someone eventually to help me or I would've passed out from lack of air." He gave a carefree shrug, like it did not bother him that he could have possibly died back in the castle, but he did, deep down. "So, is there anything you would like to do, Evan, you know, instead of just sitting here being a bunch of cowards?" The male opened his eyes and looked to the Slytherin girl again, waiting for her response to his question. "We don't have to do anything if you don't want to, we can just sit here and talk if you would like," he said after a moment of silence.

Evanthe was about to deny her fear, but Kirin kept talking and she didn't have a chance to respond. She listened closely as he spoke, saying no one can be fearless. She chewed on the bottom of her lip, waiting for a chance to open her mouth when he went on about his own fear. At that point she was pretty much speechless. She had forgotten everything she was going to say and simply sat there in silence. She listen to the background noise when he ceased his speaking, the birds chirping and the leaves rustling. At times she could hear some sort of animal scamper by or a bug buzzing around the tree. It was so serene...

She realized she was dozing off again, drifting into her own world of thoughts. Evanthe snapped out of it, bringing her mind back to the real world. Looking up to Kirin, she realized he had asked a question. Is there anything you would like to do? What to do, what to do... "Would you like to take a walk in the forest? If you think your asthma might act up we don't have to." She looked at Hogwarts castle in the distance, wondering when would be the right time to return. Probably later in the day... maybe even just before the sun goes down.

At her word, the male stood up onto his feet, using the tree trunk as support to help him up, considering he was sitting on the ground. "I assume you're up for a little bit of mischief, then?" Kirin asked, cocking an eyebrow at Evanthe. Maybe having a little fun would get his mind off the potential acting up of his asthma, plus, he wanted to spend some time with Evan. He could not even remember the last time they had some actual fun at Hogwarts, considering it had been a whole summer now. Just thinking about that got him excited to go into the forest, it would definitely be an experience for him since he had not been in there before. Hopefully, they would not get into trouble in the future with the school, then again, Kirin did not really care if they did.

Anticipation boiled in his veins and Kirin stuffed his hands into his pockets again, spinning on his heels and heading toward the forest. First, he would allow her to get up, then after a moment a thinking, he decided to just take off running instead. "Last one to the forest is a muggleborn Ravenclaw!" the teenager shouted out, taking off at a rather fast pace. He looked over his shoulder after a moment and shouted something else, "no animagus magic, Evanthe, that would be cheating!" Besides, cheating at competitions was his forté, not hers; he could not let her win at his own game. Kirin chuckled and looked back ahead at the dark forest that loomed in front of him, maybe something interesting would be in there. The male shrugged at his though and gave another glance at his shoulder, only to see Evan still sitting under the tree; what a lame-o.

Muggleborn ravenclaw, oh she would have that. However, Kirin took off before she could even stand! That had to be unfair. She stood up, the first thing coming to her mind was her animagus. She didn't care if Kirin said it was unfair, it's not like she was going to get detention for it. Still, Evanthe was a little iffy on using it due to her fall. She would just have to stay low and avoid a panic attack. Wait, how do you avoid a panic attack? Eh, too late. She was already standing. “What’s that? I can’t hear you!” She shouted with a smirk, taking a running leap into the air. Suddenly Evanthe’s form burst into a flurry of feathers and sharp talons. With a few powerful flaps of her wings she was speeding towards Kirin. However, Evanthe stayed close the the ground. She stayed so close that the tips of her primary feathers would brush the grass when she flapped her wings. Evanthe focused her mind on fun instead of her recent fall, she focused on Kirin rather than her fear. That was not so easy for Evanthe, at least not with fear. By the time she snapped out of her thoughts, Evanthe had already passed Kirin. What with being able to fly at the speeds of 15 mph, she was bound to pass. him. Instead of continuing as a bird, she landed and shifted. Her feet hit the dirt hard and Evanthe began to run. She was quite fast, though she didn’t know how she was in comparison to Kirin. He might pass her, he might not. “You okay back there?!”

His blue-grey eyes narrowed as soon as he saw Evanthe pass him, realizing that she disobeyed his rules and used her animagus. It was no use anyway, his lungs were starting to burn and he had to slow down to a decent rate to catch his breath. He eventually stopped altogether and bent down, his breathing heavy and raspy-sounding as he tried to catch his breath. Obviously, there was no more running for him, it took too much out of him and he did not like the burning feeling in his lungs. Just when he thought his lungs were starting to relax, he felt them begin to close up again and he began to cough. Kirin sucked in short, shallow gasps of air, which were quickly smothered by the coughing fit that seemed to not want to cease. No, this was definitely not what he wanted, he was hoping to go the entire day without having an asthmatic problem.

"Ev . . . Ev . . . Evanthe," he tried calling out her name, through the coughing and the gasps of hopeless breathing. Kirin collapsed to his knees at this point, his left hand on his chest while his right hand searched for something to help his breathing. There was nothing though, he left his needed medication in his dorm on accident and he felt the panic rising. Okay . . . Calm down, calm down, Kirin thought to himself just as his right hand flew up to his mouth to cover his coughing again. Please, stop, just let me breathe normally for once, that's all I want, just stop the coughing for a little bit; stop it. He wanted to cry so badly, the fear of dying prickling at the hair on the back of his neck and sending shivers down his spine. What if Evanthe did not hear him, what if she was still far up ahead, waiting for him to come over the ridge or something.

"H-he . . . Hel . . . Help," Kirin attempted to struggle out the word, his blue-grey eyes wide with fear now. Why did he have to forget his medication, was this some kind of sick, cruel joke on him that something was playing on him. This was not funny to him, he was completely scared and the sensation of fear was not helping to calm him down. It was not even helping stop the coughing and the struggle for air, to breathe normally; where was Evanthe? She would not just sit there and wait for him, would she; she would try to help him out, right, or did he have her completely wrong. Oh, if she was not here soon and he survived through this, Pestilence was totally going to know about it.

Evanthe stopped to take a breather, turning around to see how far back Kirin was. She saw him slow down and frowned. What was he doing? At this moment she blanked, Evanthe completely forgot about his asthma. When he first called her name she smirked, wondering if this was some kind of joke. Then Kirin fell to his knees and everything snapped. She remembered everything and her entire body prickled with panic. Evanthe’s blonde hair whipped behind her as she sprinted back to Kirin’s side. She sat down on her knees and looked at him with a panicked, though Evanthe quickly remembered Pestilence teaching her some pressure thing to help him without his medicine. She hoped to god it would help and quickly started conducting? the technique. ”I’m here, I’m here. Calm down and take even breaths.” Normally, someone would say ‘you’re going to be okay’ or ‘It’s going to be alright’ but Evanthe wasn’t one for those kinds of promises. She never reassured a friend with something she couldn’t make sure off. Unless, of course, it is to get them to do some stupid stunt or prank with her. Right now was not the time.

His wide eyes watched her sprint back to his side and kneel down beside him; her words barely reached his ears. Calm breaths, calm breaths, he repeated to himself, squeezing his eyes shut and trying to focus on doing just that. When her fingers touched his back, his breath seemingly caught in his throat for a second before releasing at a more relaxed rate. He could feel her fingers doing the same magic his past therapist did whenever he had an attack back home and Pestilence was not there to do it. Actually, he was quite glad that his sister had taught Evanthe the technique, where else would he be now if she had not? Kirin took in another deep breath and opened his eyes, peering over at Evan and taking in as even breaths as he could. Eventually, he began to feel the airways of his lungs relax slightly, letting in more air than what they did before.

He still wanted to take in deep breaths that would be too hard for him, but he refrained himself from doing so. "Th-thanks," Kirin finally dared to say, once he felt he had enough air to take in that he could speak to her. The adrenaline still spiked through his body, but overall, he was not as fearful as he had felt in the beginning. Positive-pressure therapy was the quickest, probably most efficient, way to regain control over his breathing when he did not have his medication with him. "I guess I . . . forgot my medication in my dorm room," he stated, his cheeks brightening with red coloring from embarrassment. "I'm sorry you had to do this for me, I can be such a burden sometimes, it's almost like another weakness I need to get rid of." Feeling most of his face heated up, he looked away from Evanthe and struggled to his feet, careful to make sure it did not trigger his asthma again.

Evanthe let out a sigh of relief, helping Kirin to stand. ”I almost had a heart attack.” She shook her head slowly, her worried gaze melting to relief and then to a certain softness that was never seen on Evanthe. ”No more running, got that? Now, do you want to go back to the castle?” Evanthe was aware she was fretting over him like a mother, but usually Pestilence was there to do it for her. She just wouldn’t be able to cope with the fact he almost died and she bounced back like it was nothing. She cared about him too much to do that. The blonde haired female glanced at the forest, then at Kirin. Would it be okay if he stepped in that place after an attack? He wouldn’t be able to fly out of there like she could. In fact, now that she was worrying it seemed like an awful idea. Maybe they should just turn back and head for the castle, that would be the best option. Still, Evanthe wanted to hear from Kirin. He knew his condition better than her, so he could decide how he was feeling. Evanthe trusted him not to be too stubborn, though, maybe she shouldn’t.

"I know, I'm limited to what I can and cannot do, it sucks and sometimes, I just wish I was dead or I was never born," Kirin sighed, dusting his clothes off. "I'm tired of being that one weak guy that everyone believes he can't do a thing because his condition prevents him from doing so. I want to join the Quidditch team, but at the same time, I'm scared to because of my asthma; I'm jealous of what normal people can do." The teenager frowned and stared off to the Forbidden forest, almost like he were falling into a daydream-like state. Now, he had the decision of continuing on or heading back to the castle, where it was stuffy and full of dust particles. To be honest, he wanted to stay outside, away from all the dust and oldness of the castle, and be where everything was fresh and clean. Pursing his lips together, forcing the frown off his face, he looked back at Evanthe just as she had asked what he wanted to do.

"I want to stay out here," he answered her, his gaze shifting back to the forest they were heading to before his asthma attack. "Yes, I know I run the risk of having another asthma attack, but it's better out here than being inside the castle where it's stuffy and dusty. Plus, you wanted to go explore the forest, we can still go there, even if we just have to walk there, because of me." Kirin did not want to ruin Evanthe's fun, he was going to let her do what she wanted most, even if it was at the risk of his health. Besides, as the saying goes, you only live once, so you might as well live everyday to the fullest, right? "Come on, we won't be missed back at the castle and they already know we get into a lot of trouble anyway, so it won't make any difference to them if we're missing for a bit." He started walking forward, his destination once again the Forbidden Forest, the one forest all student were denied access to for reasons unknown.

Evanthe frowned, shaking her head. ”Don’t say that, Kirin! Think of the other things in your life other than the downs for a second, Okay? Why wish you were dead when there are so many good things to look forward to?” She offered a small smile, shrugging her shoulders. ”And Quidditch? You can live without playing that god awful sport.” She chuckled lightly, watching him decide what to do while she spoke. Evanthe thought of flying back to the castle real quick and retrieving his medicine just in case, but the dorms were in the dungeons far below the lake. It was a real shame. After slipping into her own think world, Evanthe was basically battling with herself. Should she leave him and grab his medicine or venture without it? wait, no, no, he hasn’t even decided what he wants to do. Right when she thought that, Kirin spoke. Well now he has... Evanthe watched him as he began to walk and sighed. She would go without the medicine, turning foot to walk with him. ”You know, I think this whole ‘too dangerous for students’ sh*t is total bull.”
