Bethany sometimes curls or straightens her hair, but most of the time it’s somewhere between wavy and curly. She keeps it cut to near her shoulders. She has large eyes but only rarely puts on make-up, mainly because she doesn’t want to bother with the time. For the same reason, she tends to leave out her earrings, even though her ears are pierced (a present from her parents for getting into Hogwarts).
Her style is simple and understated, and she prefers comfort and utility to looks. She wears jeans, most of which have been patched, and only puts on skirts or slacks for formal occasions. Her shirts are mostly button-ups (a few are flannel, but only because she thinks they’re funny) over colorful camis. She has a few T-shirts that she got for free and some nicer tops, but she usually leaves those in her trunk or the bottom drawer of her dresser.

Personality
Likes: Poetry, Herbology, summer, interesting ice cream flavors, hearing about far-off countries, kids, building things, Muggle technology, getting into trouble, getting people out of trouble. | Dislikes: Being insulted, falling in love, being vulnerable, late winter (February and March), Professor Binns, fights she can't win, make-up, dry toast, French, Muggle Studies. |
Positive Traits: Bethany is surprisingly good with kids given her temper. She's also quite good at Herbology when she's not swearing at the plants. She's a decent poet, if a bit rough around the edges. | Negative Traits: Bethany has a temper that has -- and will often -- get her into trouble. She likes playing the hero and tends to ignore odds that aren't in her favor. She doesn't let her softer side show to anyone. |
Quirks/Habits: She plays with pens while writing, and sometimes toys with her wand, causing sparks to come out. She will often swear in other languages. When her hair curls nicely, she likes to play with the locks and bounce them on her hand. | Best/Worst Class: BEST: Herbology WORST: History of Magic |
Bethany is sharp-tongued and often sarcastic, even around her friends (though she will try to be gentler with them). She’s got a penchant for trouble and likes going on adventures through the castle and around the grounds, although if someone makes her promise to be careful she’ll do her best to keep her word. She’s fond of dueling and will happily test her skills on anyone, which, combined with her brashness and tendency to overestimate herself, has caused her some trouble. She’s a fidgeter and will play with anything, from her wand to her hair.
She does have a softer side, though she doesn’t much like letting it show. She writes poetry a lot – none of the “sappy love poems”, though. Hers are epics either of story or description. She also secretly tries to see the best in people and situations, but most of the time that hides beneath her jokes and attempts at wit.

Bethany had a fairly normal life until she was eleven. Her parents moved around for a few years before settling in western England, close enough to Wales that Bethany and her sister have picked up a bit of an accent. Bethany went to primary school with her twin sister Nina, and she was always the aggressive one. She would defend her sister, of course, but she sometimes went looking for fights. The most memorable – and the one she tries most often to forget – is when she went after three older kids. They beat her so badly she was bruised for days and very nearly kicked out of school for starting it.
It was something of a surprise to everyone that Bethany turned out to be a witch, since most times when strange things happened, they could easily have been blamed on Nina. However, Bethany proved to be quite a good witch, even if she wasn’t as studious as her sister would have been. She writes home often and tells her family everything. On their part, they support her, although her parents are a bit worried about her dream of becoming a professional duelist or at least working for the Ministry. Lately she’s been keeping her family in the dark about He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, thinking that it best to not terrify Nina.
Bethany makes friends fairly easily, but keeping them is another question. Those who can put up with her sarcasm are her favorites, and she tries to make friends across House lines, though part of that is because of a dare made her first year. Since there was no end time set for the dare, she insists she can still befriend a Slytherin, a Hufflepuff, and a Ravenclaw and have them all have a friendly picnic by the lake.
