Perhaps most people would be more astonished at the fact that their cousin's kid's hair color changed drastically since the last time they saw each other, only a few months though it seemed like much more. But Sirius wasn't sure that he'd ever seen Dora with the same color hair in all the times he'd seen her since birth, but what else would you expect from a Metamorphmagus? No, he was more taken aback by how much she'd grown in that brief time. He still remembered distinctly when she was born, but that thought made him feel old, so he brushed it aside. Admittedly, the blonde was a little shocking, though, but none of it was enough that he couldn't recognize her. She seemed to believe his quip about not knowing who she was, though, so he continued the act. "What? No, that can't be," he said theatrically, winking at her mother as he pretended to refuse to believe what she was telling him. He made a show of looking over both of his shoulders, as if searching the Three Broomsticks for the actual Nymphadora. "I can't seem to find her; have you seen her?" he asked of the young girl, wondering if she would catch on eventually.
Sirius really did love kids, especially this one; he didn't mind giving Ted and Andromeda a break every now and then and taking her off of their hands. He liked to think he was good around kids, though others seemed to believe he was a bad influence. He couldn't imagine why (okay, maybe a little). But little kids were funny, and he of course was all too willing to goof around and be their entertainment, even if he did coax them into breaking some rule and make a mess every once in a while. Dora seemed to do that a lot on her own, a clumsy one she was, and as if right on cue she leapt from her spot and almost flung herself clear off the table. Anticipating an accident happening, Sirius quickly brought his extended arms back in to catch her, but it wasn't needed as Andromeda seemed to be right on top of that. His smile, briefly vanishing for that moment of alarm, returned, amused at the near-faceplant.
Dora showed exactly why Sirius was so amused by kids when she pushed Andromeda back and claimed Sirius as her own. He laughed loudly at that one. "She sure told you," he grinned. Looks like that hug would have to wait, then. "Well, I've missed her too," Sirius said as he lifted the child from the seat and held her to his chest, kissing her cheek before adding, "The both of you." It was true; as much as he loved seeing little Nymphadora, he missed her mother just as well, the one family member he could genuinely say he loved and always looked forward to seeing. And of course, Ted, who couldn't be there tonight, but Sirius had met him on a couple occasions and he liked him enough. "Sorry about being late," Sirius said to Andromeda when he was sure the kid had been hugged enough and that he wouldn't be scolded by a child for addressing her mother. "Punctuality was never my strong suit."
Even though the hug from Andromeda seemed like it would need to be postponed for the time being, Sirius still didn't sit down just yet, and he explained why, "I'm going to grab a drink, do you want anything?" It meant he would have to venture back through the crowd of students and other guests, to get to where the bar actually was, but damn it, if he was at the Three Broomsticks he was going to have a drink. Except now he had a kid in his hands, which would make navigating a little more difficult, and probably raise questions from some of his classmates who were milling about. But he wasn't all too concerned about that right now. "Hey Dora, want to come see the alcohol?" he asked her excitedly, glancing over at Andromeda with a slightly mischievous grin. Maybe that was why he was considered a bad influence. Oh well, it's not like he was having her drink it.
