Hello Accio-goers!
It's been a while since we've posted an announcement, and there's a lot to talk about! First of all, I want to send another huge thank you to everyone who's stayed with us through our last Activity Check. Things have been a little slow the last couple of months, as they usually are around this time of year when everyone is heading off to school or college or university, or wherever it is that they're going. So thank you for sticking it out!
As you've undoubtedly all seen, we have a new theme! We figured it was time for a fresh face on Accio to give it a kick of life again. Really, the only changes are banner and the board layout, and the rest is just a bit of color. So to start with the banner, it's still the same as it was before, it just takes up the full width of the screen rather than just the width of the boards. The first slide will be updated as the month changes roughly every six weeks.
On the second slide you can still see all the staff info, as well as links to each staff member's characters accounts so you can see who we play easily. Slide three has the Top Point Earners on. At the beginning of each month, once we have totaled up all the new points house points for the month, we'll update both the threads under the House Point board which tell you who's earned house points and what for, and we'll also update this part of the banner so you can see who has earned the most points! Bethany Rogers is very close from knocking Dominique from the top spot! Oof!
The other thing you'll see on the third slide is an In-Character Cbox. We've removed the Shoutbox from the bottom of the forum and put this Cbox in place instead. At least now you don't have to try and switch character accounts all the time to reply. Who wants to hang out in the box with James Potter?
Slide four has all our Of The Month awards! At the start of each month we'll update this, so keep your eyes open to see whether you've made it into one of the spots! We have six OTMs; Member, Male, Female, Couple, Friends, and Enemies, and everyone who finds themselves in one of the nine places on the slide will earn TWENTY FIVE house points! The Member of the Month winner will receive a PM asking them to split 25 house points between their characters... unless they only have one character. Then we'll use our magic powers to assume they'll want to give all twenty five points to that character since... you know... it's kind of the only option.
And on the last slide? We have three hover panels. Hover your mouse over them and you'll see the information hidden underneath! We have a quick-links Navigation with a few important links, as we also have Statistics. At the start of each month we'll update this to reflect how things currently stand. You can see how many students we have in which house, how many males and females we have, as well as how many older/younger students there are. Right now, there's a fairly even mix between them which is GREAT to see!
The final thing you'll see on the fifth slide is event information. Right now, you'll see information on the three Halloween events that we have going. We aim to have a 'big' event every other IC month: October = Halloween. December = Christmas. February = Valentines. April = Easter. June = Exam time. August = Summer Event! There will be things going on in the months in between, but they won't be big events like these. Next month (IC November) we might use our NPC account to have some fireworks on the grounds for Guy Fawkes. Simple and sweet. We figure everyone needs some time to finish off their event threads before they're thrown into another event.
So... yeah! That's the banner. We'd really recommend you have a look through it from time to time, especially at the start of each month to see all the updates and new information that goes up there!
The other things that's changed a lot is the board layout. We've shuffled a lot of stuff around, deleted a few things, and condensed things down a bit. Now, we only have three categories, where as we had... I don't even know how many before. Probably around ten? Now there's three. The first category is information and character building stuff, the second is all the roleplay boards, and the third is the out of character/advertising stuff.
Things haven't changed too much in the top category, but you'll now find all the Development and Advancement boards inside the 'Your Character' board. You can also see the House Point totals in the House Points board description now, instead of them being inside the board, where most people probably never saw it. Right now, Gryffindor has taken the lead!
We still need to fix up some of the board descriptions right now - mostly there's just the boards in the actual 'roleplay' boards that need to be changed now, but as you can see there are bloody loads of them! So we'll gradually work through and get them fixed up. If anyone has an images they would like to see in the roleplay category board descriptions then please feel free to send us some images! They don't have to be 100x100 as we can crop them ourselves, but some photo ideas for the bazillion boards we have would be great! And if anyone likes writing board descriptions? Well, we won't say no to those, either!
New theme aside (how many words later? Argh!) we have a new event, as mentioned above. The main event is the Haunted House on the grounds. This is dice roll optional, but if you play with dice you may find yourself with a third party in your thread that you weren't expecting to see! Read the info thread for more details!
There's also a Candy Costume Party in the Great Hall with treats provided by Honeydukes. Feel free to share your costumes with us here so we can see what everyone has come up with! And last but not least, you can head down to Hagrid's hut for Giant Pumpkin Carving. You can join in with as many of these events as you would like to! The more the merrier!
I think this Announcement has turned out long enough already, so I'm going to finished off here. If you see anything wrong with the new theme, or there's anything you really don't like, or that could have been done better, please PM one of us and let us know what you think! We'd love to know what you think of the changes - this is as much your site as ours, after all!
